Custom software for the gaps between your tools.

Jegnia builds business applications, operational portals, and API integrations when your existing software cannot support the workflow you need. Based in Toronto, we work with teams across Canada and the US to connect systems and make daily operations easier to run.

When this service is a fit

A custom build makes sense when an important process depends on manual exports, repeated data entry, or a collection of spreadsheets that no longer gives people a reliable view of the work. The goal is a defined operational improvement, not simply another application.

If a supported feature in your existing platform solves the problem, use it. We assess the integration options and long-term maintenance before recommending custom software or replacing a system that already works.

How we build the system

  1. Specify the missing capability

We identify the users, records, actions, and decisions the software must support. The specification includes error states and permissions, as well as the normal workflow, so the scope reflects what it takes to operate the system.

  2. Design data ownership and integration rules

Every connected record needs a source of truth. We define which system owns each field, how updates are matched, and what happens when records conflict or a provider is unavailable. API limits and authentication requirements inform the architecture.

  3. Build and test the complete application

Our stack includes TypeScript, React, Python, PostgreSQL, AWS, and existing platform APIs. Technology choices follow the workflow. Tests cover permissions, data validation, repeated events, and recovery from failed integrations.

  4. Deploy with documentation and visibility

A useful handoff includes the application, infrastructure, operating documentation, and monitoring. We define ownership for credentials, maintenance, and incidents so the team knows how to keep the system working after launch.

What the scope can include

Technical specification, tested application, infrastructure, observability, documentation, and handoff.

Tools and integrations

TypeScript, React, Python, PostgreSQL, AWS, model providers, job processing, and existing APIs.

Demo architecture

Example: an operations portal

Our Operations Operating System prototype brings tasks, approvals, exceptions, and reporting into one workflow. The published architecture shows how schedules, a workflow engine, notifications, and an audit trail fit together; it is not a client case study.

Agree on what success looks like

We establish a baseline before launch and choose measures that reflect the work your team needs to improve.

  • Manual exports and re-entry steps removed
  • Record consistency across connected systems
  • Failed synchronizations and recovery time
  • Workflow completion and operator adoption

Bring this to the first conversation

Bring the platforms involved, a sample of the records being moved, the access available to their APIs, and the person who owns the business process. We will establish the desired outcome and the constraints before choosing an architecture.

Common questions

Can you connect legacy software?

It depends on the access the system provides. We assess APIs, supported exports, databases, and authentication before promising an integration. Where a reliable connection is unavailable, we explain the limitation and alternatives.

Does every custom application need AI?

No. A business application may need reliable forms, permissions, data synchronization, and reporting without AI. We use AI where it helps with tasks such as interpretation or drafting, and explicit rules where those are sufficient.

What do we receive at handoff?

The scope can include a technical specification, tested application, infrastructure, documentation, monitoring, and an operating plan. Deliverables, ownership, and ongoing support are defined in the project agreement.

Can you improve an existing application?

Yes. We can evaluate the current workflow and software, then scope a targeted integration or missing capability. The assessment determines whether extending the existing system is practical.
